Phillip E. Ackert awarded
Purple Heart after 56 years

Graduate of Red Hook High School Class of 1950, Phillip E. Ackert, Red Hook Post #7765 Life Member #438038 was awarded the Purple Heart for wounds received on Bunker Hill (Hill 122) on August 13, 1952. Sgt. Ackert spent 13 months in Korea with Baker Company 1-1-1st Marine Division. The award was presented February 2008 at Camp Pendleton on the 67th birthday of the 1st Marine Division by Brigadier General Thomas D. Waldhouser, C.G., 1st Marine Division.
